When you do want
to go out
The house is the destination, and plenty of guests never leave it all weekend. But if you do feel like seeing something, this is what earns the drive — most of it inside twenty minutes.
-
Rabyňská vyhlídka viewpoint
5–10 min by car · 1–2 hours
The nearest view over the Slapy reservoir, and the one that feels most like the house itself: some forest, some rock and the water below. Nothing to pay, nothing to book — you just walk up.
-
Máj viewpoint
15 min by car · 2–3 hours
The famous bend in the Vltava — the photograph you have already seen. It is the biggest draw in the area, so in season go early in the morning or late in the day.
-
Mařenka and Myšák viewpoints
15–20 min by car · 2–3 hours
Two viewpoints a short way from Máj and considerably quieter. If Máj is crowded, turn here instead — the view is different, not lesser.
-
Svatojánské proudy
15–20 min by car · 3–5 hours · 12 km
Twelve kilometres of wild country above the Vltava. Rock, forest, water and the history of Czech tramping. Moderate difficulty, 173 m of climbing, with stretches on narrow paths cut into the cliffs. The best walk here if you want a whole day on foot.
-
Molo Nová Rabyně
10 min by car · two hours to a full day
Beach, bistro, beach volleyball and a rental counter for paddleboards, pedalos and small motor boats, all in one place. With children you can easily stay the day.
-
Boat and paddleboard rental, Rabyně
10 min by car · 2–4 hours · 9 am–8 pm in season
Motor boats up to 5 hp, paddleboards, tandem boards, one very large megaboard and pedalos. You need to bring nothing at all — and Slapy looks like a different place from the water.
-
The Slapy dam
10–15 min by car · 1–2 hours
A walk along the top of the dam, and the valley seen from the opposite side to the one you know from the house. There is a viewpoint over the reservoir on the way, ten minutes from us.
-
Slapy rope park
20–25 min by car · 2–4 hours · 10 am–6 pm in summer
Courses at several difficulties including a circuit for the smallest, so the whole family gets a turn rather than just the braver half.
-
Měřín aqua centre
10–15 min by car · 2–4 hours
The pool at the Měřín hotel. A practical rescue for the day it rains and the children have run out of house.
-
Konopiště Castle
30–35 min by car · half a day
The one further afield we still recommend, because it is worth it. The castle runs a seasonal timetable and tickets are best bought online in advance, or you may be waiting for a tour slot.
-
Golf Park Slapy
15 min by car · 3–5 hours
A course close to the house. When two couples come and one of them wants a morning to itself, this is the answer.
-
Ostromeč ruins
20–25 min by car · 2–3 hours
What is left of a castle above the confluence, somewhere the coaches do not go. A short walk with a reward at the end, and usually complete silence.
-
The Sázava valley
from 30 min by car · half a day to a full one
A trip along the Sázava when you want to swap the reservoir for a river. It stretches to a whole day without any planning in advance.
If the weather holds
Molo Nová Rabyně in the morning, a paddleboard or a boat from the Rabyně rental in the afternoon, the rope park towards evening. Then the sauna, and the day is done.
If it rains
The Měřín pool in the morning and back into the sauna after lunch. Rain over the pond is, incidentally, one of the reasons people come here in autumn.
Drive times are approximate and measured from the house in Loutí. For the seasonal places, check opening hours and prices before you set off — they change with the month.
